As a real estate professional for over four decades, real estate offers financial solutions to many of Jackson's ongoing challenges. There is a bundle of cash wrapped up in Jackson's real estate that we can exploit to the benefit of Jackson. As a Jackson resident of 43 years, I, like many of you, am concerned with the state of affairs of our city.
We watch sadly as our city's leadership performs below our expectations and our ordinary upbringing. We disappoint those who bequeath to us at great sacrifice a safe, clean city that gave us so many fond memories.
So, I step forward to enlist fellow Jacksonians to stop Jackson's decline beyond the point of no return. The first thing needed is a change of direction, heart, and attitude. I suggest replacing it with a collective spirit of gratitude and thankfulness by Jacksonians and its leadership.
Some Jacksonians know we can be better and have no qualms about joining with fellow travelers to ensure a better future for Jackson. Within our community lies the potential for a transformative change. Let us plant the seeds of prosperity and opportunity for a bountiful future that we can all share and bequeath to our kids as we have received the same. It will unleash God's blessings on our city again as He has done throughout Jackson's history. So, let us not shy away from the challenges. Let us remember those who went before us faced more formidable obstacles to deliver to us what we now wax nostalgic about. We owe the same to our children and grandchildren. Won't you join us? Together, let's raise our voices and make a difference. Let's give it our all, for the future of our city and our loved ones depend on you. We are our first responders!
VISION:
With its dual focus, our strategic plan can usher in Jackson's new era of prosperity by strategically leveraging the Amazon Data Center investment at Highland Colony and County Line Road. Coupled with coordinated efforts by CoJ and JPS can bring about a host of benefits for Jackson. This opportunity from this project will be the pump primer for economic success for the rest of Jackson in the future. Crucial to parlaying this investment is getting the schools located near the Amazon Data Center on Beasley Road, Callaway High School, and Kirksey Middle School in North Jackson Elementary up to a level five school rating consistently over the next five years. A level five designation is the most requested item for businesses relocating to an area with good public schools.
Suppose the neighborhood associations were to seize the economic opportunity of the Amazon investment with increased efforts at improving the livability and quality of life in their neighborhoods. My experience tells me that it will improve the private investment opportunities for those neighborhoods, resulting in a more robust tax base overall. Through a robust partnership between businesses, individuals, and the city, we can collectively elevate the quality of life in our neighborhoods. Your active involvement, whether through volunteering or donations, combined with city resources, will drive this transformative journey. We are pursuing this economic thrust with neighborhood, sustainability, and livability efforts. We aim to increase the number of rooftops in these neighborhoods by filling vacant lots with new houses built at market rates.
As the quality of life in our neighborhoods improves, so do business opportunities in those neighborhoods as new rooftops fill vacant land and lots in these newly desirable areas from Jacksonians seeking to be a part of a revitalized Jackson. This increase in quality of life and the formation of new businesses will lead to a surge in tax revenues. Tax revenues will significantly increase as more properties are sold, and new businesses are established. Rewarding neighborhood associations, wards, or districts with one cent of every sales tax dollar generated by the new businesses that decide to locate due to these better living conditions in Jackson neighborhoods is a win-win for all.
I envision North Jackson from Medgar Evers bound by Northside Drive and 220 over to I55 to downtown Jackson, using that as the economic locomotive to generate the tax revenues to fund the restoration and rebirth of Jackson. Implementing these straightforward steps will not only inspire other neighborhoods and communities to follow suit. But also foster healthy competition to improve their respective areas. This collective momentum and communities investing in themselves will ultimately lead to a better quality of life for all Jacksonians. Let all our policies flow from what's best and suitable for kids and what's best for property values. If you look out for kids' best interests, you automatically look out for the future. When you look out for what is best for property values, you can fund Jackson's future in perpetuity.
